Someone online asked why intelligent humans would leap to the conclusion that all that is required for building a human or other living things is proteins. No need for a body plan, no need for direction to build complex systems and organs. No need for genes to control behavior.
The evolutionary community does believe there were tools for the evolutionary process to use: mutations and natural selection. But it’s true that none of these things include intelligence or directions. The answer is not actually one that science itself could give us…
