Why doesn’t the Bible say the age of the earth?
I’ve been creating content about creationism on the internet since about 2016, and I get this question from time to time. And I’ll be honest, I’ve never really bothered to answer it because frankly, the answer just seems so obvious to me.
This question is usually stated as an objection, but is really a question in disguise. They might
frame it something like this. “Umm, the Bible does not give an exact age for the earth. Therefore, we should not be concerned with it. Right?” Easy enough to understand.
But the response doesn’t take much thinking to grasp. What would happen if the Bible did give the exact age of the earth? Like, if it said if it said somewhere that the earth is 6,000 years old. But that statement was written down around 3,000 years ago. Then the earth wouldn’t be 6,000 years old when we were reading it today. So, why would it say that? How could it provide such precise information?
