During May and June of 2009 headlines around the world trumpeted in the arrival of the new messiah for Humanism – Ida the missing link. Take this lead-in to a Sky News report:
“Scientists have unveiled a 47-million-year-old fossilized skeleton of a monkey hailed as the missing link in human evolution.” The story continued: “The search for a direct connection between humans and the rest of the animal kingdom has taken 200 years – but it was presented to the world today…this transitional species finally confirms Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution…”
Wow! This sounds as though the Bible had been scientifically refuted! However, the apostle Paul exhorted us in 1 Thessalonians 5:21 “Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.” So let’s see what the facts reveal.
While the over blown hype made Ida sound as though she was a recently discovered ape-to-man link, she was actually discovered back in 1983.
A follow-up article in Live Science included statements from several honest evolutionists such as Duke University’s Richard Kay: “…they failed to cite a body of literature that’s been going on since at least 1984 that presents evidence against their hypothesis.”
Yale’s Chris Gilbert stated: “On the whole I think the evidence is less than convincing… the consensus is not in favor of the hypothesis they’re proposing.”
A Fox News article reported: “The small body represents a roughly 9-month-old female that probably looked a lot like modern lemurs.”
That’s right: Ida the missing link is actually Ida the lemur, a species of long-tailed primates found in zoos today.
So what’s up with all of the misleading propaganda?
Well, the foundation for Secular Humanism is millions of years leading to Darwinism and with no viable evidence supporting their religious belief, Humanists are desperate. Since they believe people evolved from a lemur-like creature, and since Ida appears to have been a species of lemur, that’s all they required as proof we had evolved.
This leads me to two questions:
First, with 99 species of lemurs alive today; and with millions of individual lemurs having lived and died over the past 500 years alone; why does finding the bones of a dead lemur prove that anything other than lemurs came from lemurs?
Genesis 1:21 “And God created…every living creature…after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.”
Ten times in the book of Genesis we are told that God created plants and/or animals to bring forth after their kind. A lemur begetting a lemur fits Biblical creation to a tee (or to a lemur in this case).
Second, doesn’t Ida just prove that when lemurs die they leave their bones behind?
Chris Beard of the Carnegie Museum of Natural History added in Live Science: “This fossil has been hailed as the eighth wonder of the world. Frankly I’ve got 10 more in my basement.”
Yes, refuting Darwinian claims can be this simple.
Romans 1:22-23 “Professing themselves to be wise they became fools And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.”
Paul’s inspired words apply well to those who have changed Biblical creation into Darwinian evolution.
The timing of Ida’s incarnation was choreographed to promote a new book and a History Channel special about her. An author of the Sky News article admitted in the Wall Street Journal: “There was a TV company involved and time pressure.”
That’s correct; Ida was all about selling books and advertising – while misleading millions of unsuspecting people into rejecting their Biblical Creator and redeeming Savior, Lord Jesus the Christ.
No wonder Paul warned us in Colossians 2:8: “Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ”.
Ida the lemur will eventually end up on the infamous list of refuted Darwinian messiahs which include: Piltdown man; Nebraska man; Ramipithecus; Sivapithecus; Peking man; Java man; Lucy; Toumai man; and Flat-faced man, to name but a few.
In Genesis 6:17 we are told that God would bring “…a flood of waters upon the whole earth.”
As always, real science is a Believer’s true friend. The observable evidence supports that: kinds will only bring forth after their kind; and God judged His creation with a worldwide flood that buried things in sedimentary layers to become fossils. (Note: Old-earth beliefs are based on the layers having formed slowly which is why old earth believers deny the global flood just as prophesied in 2 Peter 3:3-6.)
My advice is this: Put your faith in the never-changing Word of God.
