Is Biblical Truth Really True?

There is an ongoing trend among many young people within our churches to assume that all truth is relative to the individual and their life experiences.

The common thinking is, “What is true for you may not be true for me.” If you want to believe that there is a Creator God who spoke the universe into existence and that the universe was “very good,” only to be corrupted by sin, that’s fine for you, but it’s not fine for me.

Modern secular culture has been pushing the idea that religion and morality are private and subjective, and only science and public knowledge are objective and to be believed as truth without question.

So, is biblical truth really true?

Absolutely and positively, YES! Biblical truth is set in history, written by holy men of God, and inspired by God himself. The words written were not by the wisdom of human writers, but by God through the Holy Spirit. God used faithful men and guided them to what He wanted them to write. The Bible’s term for this is inspiration. We know how God created the universe because He inspired Moses to write down the words of this historical event. You know the creation account is true because the words in Genesis are true.

No other book in the world has God’s word to people.

Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. (2 Peter 1:20–21)

God cannot lie or present that which is false. Did God create a very good universe in six 24-hour days? Yes.

But do we merely rely on blind faith?

No. Being made in the image of God, we can use our intelligent reasoning capabilities to back up our faith. And being made in His image, we have the capacity to truly understand His revelation that He provided to all people.

  • We see art, so reason tells us that there are artists.
  • We see buildings, so reason tells us there are builders.
  • We see creation, so reason tells us there is a Creator.
  • We see that the planet Earth has been designed for life, so reason tells us that a Creator God was that Designer.
  • We know that the information found in our DNA makes all living things what and who they are.

Information comes from information. God creating all living things is the only viable explanation for how we got here.

No other religion backs up its claims with such remarkable evidence as we find in the historical accuracy of Christianity. Numerous books have been written about evidence of creation, the resurrection of Jesus Christ, prophecy, and archeology. This is crucially important to our beliefs because it provides a foundation for reason to lead us to the truth.

If creation, as described in the book of Genesis, actually happened in historical space-time, then all other religions and philosophies for understanding why we are here fall short. This doesn’t mean that all religions and philosophies are wrong in everything they teach, but at its foundational explanation of life, biblical Christianity is uniquely true.
