Even if you’ve never seen an episode of the TV series. Even if you never listened to the 1940s radio serial. Even if you are a millennial or younger, you’ve probably heard the phrase “father knows best.” It’s an iconic part of America’s culture, but more than that, it holds elementary truths that have stood the test of time.
But you see, I believe that the Bible is God’s Word, and I believe that it was inspired by the Father Himself, Yahweh, the God of the Bible. So, if the Bible is inspired by the Father, and the Father knows best…. then by association, the Bible also knows best!
Let me see if I can break it down a little bit further:
- The Bible is God’s Word of truth.
- “Knows” means “to have knowledge of.”
- And “best” means that it’s superior to all the other options.
Basically, I’m saying that God’s Word has superior knowledge. But if we look at the modern word “science,” we find that it comes from Latin meaning to “have knowledge.”
In short, science is knowledge of the natural world. So when I say that the “Bible Knows Best,” I’m also saying that when the Bible speaks on scientific principles, those scientific principles will stand the test of time.
In the same fashion, when the Bible speaks of history or prophecy, or anything else, I believe that it is always correct prophecy, true history, accurate in whatever it’s talking about.
That’s the whole concept of “divine inspiration.”
So, does the Bible know best? And has it stood the test of time? I believe so. In areas where there seems to be some discrepancy between Scripture and science, we must remember that science is constantly being revised, and consistently pointing to what the Bible already had stated. Whether it’s the earth hanging on nothing, with space all around, or the paths and currents of the sea, empirical science continues to confirm: the Bible knows best!
