Have We Really Seen Star Families? How to Read the News Headlines

Star "Families" Dr. J video still

I want you to carefully notice something here. It says this is an artist illustration.

They’ve never seen anything like this in real life and barely, barely, barely seen an exoplanet ever. There’s only one telescopic image of any exoplanet. I mean, there are supposed to be like hundreds of them, but we only have one picture, and that’s okay. There probably really are those hundreds of planets, but when you see stuff like this, everyone thinks this picture is taken through a telescope, you have to redefine print to realize what’s going on.

Scientists so easily slip into language that gives the impression that they know something when the reality is that they only have an educated guess. It’s fine to make guesses, but it is unscientific to be sure about something that is only presumed and is open to falsification.

Dr Charl

Written by Dr. Charles Jackson

Dr. Charles Jackson has four degrees in science and education and taught secondary school sciences 11 years, then college biology and chemistry 6 years, and then teacher education classes 6. In 2003, Dr. Jackson founded Points of Origins and began teaching, speaking, and debating in creation science education. Keenly interested in liberating Christian students from the delusion that their faith has been refuted by modern science, Dr. J crusades against evolutionary dogma on college campuses across the United States. He has presented creation science instruction in churches, to both secular and Christian high school and college faculties, to student assemblies from elementary through high school, and to Christian groups on many college campuses.
