Presentations on science can be hard to follow and seem as if they are designed only for the smart few to understand, but it can be much easier to grasp when you break things down into the basics we all experience.
A stack of abandoned dirty plates doesn’t tell you how long ago they got there, they only tell you the order in which they were placed there. This is the same principle with the geological layers of the earth. We see these rock layers way deep down in the Grand Canyon in a sequence 6,000 feet deep up to the top, and we see very flat layers.
Now, these layers extend for thousands and thousands of miles. The same layer of rock that starts in Texas extends all the way to Colorado and beyond. In fact, you could drive all the way to Canada on the same rock layer. It’s not only flat, it extends across a continent! There’s no place on earth where we see the rock layers forming like that now anywhere in the world!
