The author of Genesis had other ways to express the concept if he had wanted to say the days were long extended eons of time. For example, he could have used a different word, but that’s not what he did. In fact, not only did he not use such a word, he qualified the word “day” with an evening and a morning, put numbers in front, and used the plural form in Exodus 20: 11. What more could the author have done to qualify the meaning of the word and show us that the days of creation were not millions of years but were literal 24-hour days.
