What Happened in Genesis 3?

Creationism 101: Genesis 3, the Fall, video still

We keep coming back to episodes that are foundational to our beliefs, that are a good introduction for everybody, you know, that can be understood and appreciated by all of our listeners, whoever they may be. So that’s what Creationism 101 is about. We’re trying to concentrate on the main beliefs of young age creationists that kind of unite us together. so no matter, you know, no matter what tribe of creationism you’re with, no matter what organization you work for, this should be this should be a series where you can all sort of nod and say, “Yeah, that’s right.” You might not like us saying it, but at least you can say, “Yeah, that’s something I believe.”

And here we’ve got Genesis 3, which you will know is all about the temptation of Eve. It’s about the the first sin, the original sin, and all that transpires because of that original sin. So, that’s where we’ve got to, Todd.

I think it’s important for us to recognize this is a really weird story. I think we’ve all read this long enough now and thought about it long enough now that we’ve sort of shaken off the weirdness of it.

And I’m not saying this as a skeptic, or a non-believer, or anything like that. I’m not trying to discredit or disparage the Bible. I believe these events happened roughly as they’re described, but I think it’s healthy and helpful for us to step back every now and then and kind of acknowledge this is a very different kind of thing than the sort of things that you will encounter later in Genesis and the rest of the Old Testament and the New Testament.

So, let’s just summarize what happened here, right?
