How Species Develop in the Real World

Did you ever hear of the researcher trying to locate the “speciation gene”? It’s part of the fascinating history of how scientists think about the differences between similar creatures and what causes changes from generation to generation.

So they tried breeding these mice and making all these hybrid lines. Of the 738 lines they created 95% died out; they just went extinct. It couldn’t work because the wild mice and the domestic mice had been separated for centuries. While they had started out as the same species, but over the years they had developed different mutations…

What does it take to decide where one species starts and another stops? This is an open question that feeds into the confusion surrounding the evolution and creation debates. Today, we consider what we do know, what we don’t, and how not to approach the question of species.

In 2003, Dr. Jackson founded Points of Origins and began teaching, speaking, and debating in creation science education. Keenly interested in liberating Christian students from the delusion that their faith has been refuted by modern science, Dr. J crusades against evolutionary dogma on college campuses across the United States. He has presented creation science instruction in churches, to both secular and Christian high school and college faculties, to student assemblies from elementary through high school, and to Christian groups on many college campuses.
