The Human Pancreas and God’s Power in Creation

Our pancreas and the Big Bang meme

[Originally published as Ever heard of Dr. Langerhans? Do you value your pancreas?]

Yay for Dr. Paul Langerhans, who in 1869 described the pancreatic islets (cells) in your Christ-created pancreas that secrete insulin. In “1910 and later in 1916, in London, Sir Edward Albert Sharpey-Schafer described in depth that the pancreatic islands are able to secrete a substance capable of controlling glucose metabolism, which he termed ‘insulin,’ from Latin ‘insula’ (‘island’), with reference to the Langerhans islands.”

If you have type 2 diabetes, like me, you like cells that form insulin. “Islets of Langerhans are islands of endocrine cells scattered throughout the pancreas.”

Some evolutionists believe that the pancreas developed on its own over millions of years, unguided by God, but it took humans until 1978 to synthesize a form of insulin that humans could use. Even then, they had to use Christ-created E. coli bacteria as part of the process. Even today, close to 50 years later, no human has created an E. coli bacterium from scratch.

Let’s now go from small to big. Many evolutionists say everything came from a Big Bang. “English astronomer Fred Hoyle is credited with coining the term ‘Big Bang’ during a talk for a March 1949 BBC Radio broadcast, saying: ‘These theories were based on the hypothesis that all the matter in the universe was created in on big bang at a particular time in the remote past.’”

A hypothesis is “a supposition or proposed explanation made on the basis of limited evidence as a starting point for further investigation.” In other words, it is a godless guess. Too many scientists subscribe to the religion of atheism. That’s what naturalism is, you know, atheism in disguise. I don’t fall for it, and hope you don’t either. God’s Word says, “The fool says in his heart, ‘There is no God.’”

There is a God, and He directly revealed Himself 2,000 years ago. Many mocked and scorned Him, but there are also many who love Him. I do not know if Langerhans was a follower of Creator Christ or not. I hope he was so I can meet him someday.

One thing good about the Big Bang theory is that it affirms that there was a beginning. The Bible affirms this in its very first verse. How come it took so long for scientists to catch up to the Bible? Nevertheless, many still show their unbelief by saying it was billions of years ago. No. Thousands of years ago? Yes.

There is a wealth of information available to help people see how trustworthy God and His testimony in the Bible is. The key is to explain concepts simply so they can be understood by anyone. This is my goal, and I’ve had a lot of fun tackling areas where the world tests our faith. CreationScience4Kids.com

  1. Blood glucose regulation is an incredibly complex process. It uses two negative feedback loops operating in harmony. I’m an EE who has designed many negative feedback loops over my career, and even single-loop designs are often difficult to make work properly and stably. Both loops detect glucose levels. In one, if the level is too high it causes the pancreas to secrete insulin in order to lower the level by allowing the glucose to be taken up by cells. In the other, if the level is too low it causes the liver to release glucose. These loops were designed by God when He created life thousands of years ago. Who taught Him? Nobody. He just knows. I had to get two degrees and work many years to learn how to design simpler control loops. Humans didn’t understand this subject until around the turn of the 20th century. It’s absolutely amazing.
