Of Heinz Fraenkel-Conrat, Isaac Asimov wrote that he:
separated the nucleic acid and protein portion of tobacco mosaic viruses and tried to find out whether each portion alone could infect a cell. It developed that separately they could not, as far as he could tell. But when he mixed the protein and nucleic acid together again, as much as 50 percent of the original infectiousness of the virus sample could eventually be restored! The public press hailed Fraenkel-Conrat’s experiment as the creation of a living organism from nonliving matter…
putting virus nucleic acid and protein together to form a virus is not creating life from nonlife life; the life is already there. The protein merely serves to protect the nucleic acid against the action of hydrolyzing enzymes…in the environment and to help it go about the business of infection and reproduction more efficiently. I’ve said before that former, self-professed atheist Asimov was willing to speak truth at least from time to time. I say “former” not because I believe he became a believer prior to his death but no person retains atheism in the hereafter. But why would the public press want to promote the notion that man created life when he didn’t? There may be many reasons, but one I strongly suspect is that many want to elevate man’s brilliance and diminish the Creator, Christ. Many still hate Jesus.
If you are one, let me encourage you to reconsider. Blaise Pascal wrote, “Should a man happen to err in supposing the Christian religion to be true, he could be no loser by the mistake. But how irrevocable is his loss, how inexpressible his danger, who should err in supposing it to be false.”
I’m a mere human being and can save no one, and yet I’m trying to encourage you to put your faith in your Creator. Do you recommend anything for me? Do you want to discourage me from trusting in Jesus? The only thing you might lose is some of your “friends.” They might start disliking you because you became a believer, but none of them went to a cross for you.
Here’s a plan. Humble ask Jesus if he would save you by humble repenting of your prideful rebellion. Then go and read the Gospel of John. It’s only 21 chapters and each is readable. Trust him.
