Apologetics at the Time of Edison: Philip Mauro

Meme of Mauro's apologetics

[Originally published by Paul Humber as Did Edison ever meet the LIGHT of the world?]

Lawyer Philip Mauro wrote to Thomas A. Edison,

Dear Mr. Edison,

It was a real pleasure to see you and hear your voice again…
You want facts. So do I. A reasonable man’s belief should rest upon nothing less substantial than well-attested facts. So here is a fact for you:

God (whom you…call “the Supreme Intelligence”) loves you and wants your love in return

Fact: God is Light. How do I know? I know only in the way that light can be known—by experience. For the nature of light is such tit admits of being known only in the way of experimental knowledge. I am saying this to the man who has had more to do with the development of artificial light than any other who ever lived in this dark world…

How then could the existence and the nature of light be demonstrated to one who had been shut up all his life in a dark cell? It could be done…by opening a window…light would enter, and prove itself.”

Shifting a bit, in his 1922 book, Evolution at the Bar, Mauro wrote,

All individuals would be undergoing changes, both internal and external. In such case we would see humps, protuberances and the like, on various parts of different creatures, in various stages of progress towards whatever chance, or “residence forces,” might ultimately determine—legs, arms, wings, horns, tails, trunks, tusks, or some other and novel sort of organs or members, of that nature whereof we could form o idea in advance of their complete development.

That is what we would see if Evolution were true. If then we see nothing of the sort, it because Evolution is a delusion.

I add that evolution is a delusion leading many, many to hell. “But, Paul, if most people “believe” I evolution, it must be true, right?” Wrong. If you choose to align with the “majority,” then you are NOT pleasing God, your Maker! Paul wrote to the Galatian churches, “If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a bond-servant of Christ.” Jesus spoke of the broad way leading to destruction. He is the narrow way leading to life. If you have Him, you have lasting life.

There is a wealth of information available to help people see how trustworthy God and His testimony in the Bible is. The key is to explain concepts simply so they can be understood by anyone. This is my goal, and I’ve had a lot of fun tackling areas where the world tests our faith. CreationScience4Kids.com
