By David Rives
We read a thought-provoking question in Psalms:
“If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?”
Today more than ever, this question warns us of the dangers of an ever increasing attack on the foundations of our faith. And what better way to go back to our foundations, than the very beginning itself: “In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth.” The first verse of the Bible is about as foundational as it gets, because everything past that – in the Bible, and in the entire history of the universe is affected by that one statement… In the beginning, GOD.
But the theory of evolution is eroding that foundation from around us, so WE… YOU and me… have to stand upon the last blocks of that foundation, and make our voice heard.
Many people today, including atheists, Christians, and even people who hold the REST of the Bible in high regard believe that the Genesis account of creation is a mere fable, a fairy tale, or an allegory, and that somehow, evolution DID play a part in it. That somehow, evolution was used by God in the creation process.
I believe that just as the scriptures say, in the beginning, God created the heaven and earth. Not in billions of years, not in millions of years, not even in thousands of years, but in six literal days. And that he blessed the seventh day and hallowed it, completing His week, and everything was GOOD. This is the original source of our 7 DAY week that we use today.
The record of creation was not put there for scholarly interpretation, but as a plain account of the very beginning.
“Every word of God is pure… Add thou not unto His words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.”
