Is Earth Special? | David Rives

The beauty of God’s creation shows order and design that is complex but very well organized. A look at mankind reveals amazing design and we read in Psalms that we are fearfully and wonderfully made.

But is Earth really special? Well, a careful look reveals a large number of factors that appear “finely tuned” here on Earth.

We have an abundant supply of the things that matter. The sun is 93 million miles away, shining down on us with just the right amount of energy. We’re standing on dry land because we have a terrestrial planet, unlike Saturn, Jupiter, Uranus, Neptune and others. But we also have an abundance of liquid water, which is essential for human life. We have an atmosphere that has a very unique combination of gases. In other words, we can breathe easy.

Not only that, but before we were able to peer into the heavens and study other planets, the Bible told us how rare inhabitable planets would be. The book of Isaiah says that Earth was specifically formed to be inhabited. It was created with purpose and it’s full of wonders without number.

Now, it was only through our sin that destruction, death, and disease crept into the world. But even this was made provision for.

You see, God sent his only Son, the Creator of the universe, to pay the penalty for our sins and offer us eternal life in a new heavens and a perfect new Earth.

With this promise to look forward to, we have nothing to fear. Jesus will change your life forever and offer you peace that passes all understanding.

I’m David Rives; truly the heavens declare the glory of God.
